Instructor:

Lindsey Johnson, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from St Catherine University in 2013 and became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 2019. Lindsey has completed additional training in pelvic health since 2015 and provides pelvic health physical therapy to all genders and all ages. Lindsey lives in Wyoming, MN with her husband and 4 children (ages 8-18months).  She loves to garden and being outside but has little time for other hobbies in this stage of her life due to having young children!

Course Summary: 

The purpose of this course is to enhance your knowledge and skills necessary to support the unique physiological, hormonal, and fitness needs of women during perimenopause and menopause.  Discussion will include how menopause may affect the orthopedic or neurological diagnosis you are treating.

Learner Outcomes:

  • Describe basic endocrine and hormone function and how this relates to the menstrual cycle in pre-menopause, perimenopause and menopause
  • Discuss changes that can occur with aging hormonal fluctuations in the thyroid, immune system, mood, sleep, heart disease, bone health and urogenital considerations
  • Recognize normal and abnormal symptoms of perimenopause and menopause
  • Discuss common orthopedic or neurological diagnoses that have relevance to menopause onset 
  • Identify key components of exercise and activity prescriptions for women throughout menstrual cycle hormonal changes  
  • Recognize when to recommend further care for menopause symptoms or when to refer to pelvic floor physical therapy
