Course Description:
This intermediate level, ADULT-focused dysphagia course will review up to date evidence and intervention implications for COVID-19 population.  The second half of the course will focus on the origin and identification of cultural biases in healthcare pertaining to dysphagia intervention.  We will learn techniques to provide culturally-competent services for adults who have swallowing disorders across several different cultures. Ideas and recommendations to improve culturally-competency services in your work environments will be provided.  
Instructor:
Rosalee Lentz is a Board-Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders and Speech-Language Pathology Supervisor at M Health Fairview Southdale and M Health Fairview Ridges hospitals.  She has been a Fairview SLP for 13 years and is passionate about multidisciplinary care in the treatment of dysphagia.  Her pretend professional goal is to communicate with colleagues using only memes and gifs.

  • Examine and discuss case scenarios re: timing, intervention methods, and referral recommendations for COVID-19 patients.
  • Identify areas of cultural barriers and biases in SLP dysphagia intervention.
  • Learn methods to improve culturally-competent dysphagia assessment and treatment.
