All participants will receive a certificate of completion which you may be able to use towards your professional license). Course Description: The course will start out with a brief introduction of functional medicine and how it applies to evidence-based nutrition therapy with regards to metabolic conditions. We will then dive into various definitions of plant-based diets and the researched outcomes for following these diets as they apply to heart disease specifically. From here we will discuss the top trending diets of 2024 along with the research supporting their use for specific health conditions. Finally, we will end with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist's strategy for creating a meal plan for people seeking weight loss. Course Objectives:
Instructor: Jamie Freier is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist licensed in the state of Minnesota to provide medical nutrition therapy. Jamie received a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Psychology with a Social Justice minor and a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Nutrition from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Jamie has been working for M Health Fairview (originally HealthEast) for the past 5 years. During this time, she had mostly worked as an inpatient Clinical Dietitian covering a variety of different floors and disease states from behavioral health to the ICU. A few years after becoming an RDN, she became a Certified Nutrition Support Specialist in order to provide better nutrition therapy for patients dependent on nutrition support. More recently, Jamie received a Master of Science degree in the Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine program provided by the University of Western States out of Portland, OR. Currently, Jamie's career focus has shifted to working more exclusively with outpatient Cardiac Rehab patients while also completing a doctorate program to become a Doctor of Clinical Nutrition. Altogether, these pursuits are in line with Jamie's sincere passion for utilizing nutrition interventions as part of evidence-based prevention strategies and root-cause treatments for chronic diseases with special emphasis on metabolic conditions.
