This course will cover the clinical characteristics of the immune mediated neuropathies, specifically Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) and Multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN). as well as emphasize the significance of early and accurate diagnosis, including the risks associated with mis-diagnosis. Additionally, standard therapeutic interventions for GBS, CIDP and MMN will be discussed.
Instructor:
Jeffrey Allen is a Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. He completed his neurology residency training at Tufts University, and neuromuscular fellowship at Harvard. Dr. Allen’s research has focused on defining the clinical and diagnostic boundaries of the inflammatory neuropathies, as well as investigating treatments for those disorders. He serves as chairman of GBS/CIDP Foundation International Global Medical Advisory Board and Treasurer of the Peripheral Nerve Society. Dr. Allen is also involved with the Inflammatory Neuropathy Consortium, American Academy of Neurology and American Academy of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
