Instructor:

Annie Lewis DPT, OCS, Cert. MDT graduated from St. Catherine University, earning her DPT in 2011. After completing the MHFV Orthopedic PT Residency, she received her Orthopedic Clinical Specialty (OCS) certification in 2013 and Certification in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Cert. MDT) in 2016. She sees patients in Blaine, MN. In addition to patient care, she is the coordinator of the MHFV Orthopedic PT Residency and a lab assistant in the University of MN DPT program. Her clinical interests include low back and hip pain, lower extremity rehabilitation, neck pain, cervicogenic headaches, and TMD. She has presented locally on the topics of spine care in the general population, pediatrics, and athletes.

Course summary:

In this course, participants will review evidence-based assessment and physical therapy treatment of TMJ/D. Participants will get comfortable with a categorization system to understand the drivers of their patients’ primary symptoms. The bulk of the course will focus on building skills in the primary categories of physical therapy management of TMJ/D, including patient education/behavior modification, manual therapies, and adjunct exercise. To maximize the learning of all participants in this lab-based course, attendees should come prepared to practice techniques and have techniques practiced on them, unless communicated with the course instructor. 

Objectives: 

  1. Identify the primary contributors to TMJ/D complaints in patient cases
  2. Demonstrate the ability to perform evidence-based treatments for patients with TMJ/D
  3. Construct a well-rounded treatment plan for a patient with TMJ/D
