A Crash Course in Aural RehabilitationIntended Audience: SLP
Level: Intermediate
Contact hours: 8.0 (.80 ASHA CEU)
Format: Recorded online
Course Description: With appropriately fit amplification, patients with hearing loss who use cochlear implants and hearing aids can have access to all speech sounds required to develop listening and spoken language. However, intensive intervention is required for these patients to learn to listen and receive optimal benefit from their devices. It is important that speech-language pathologists working with this population have relevant background knowledge and training in order to provide appropriate and evidence-based treatment. This course will provide an in-depth review of strategies and therapeutic activities that support auditory, language, and speech skills for both new and experienced listeners. This course will also review audiology concepts including causes of hearing loss, hearing testing, and hearing aids/cochlear implants. The overall goal of this course is to advance speech-language pathologists’ understanding of aural rehabilitation with both pediatric and adult populations.
