Course description:

Physical therapy professionals are regularly confronted with a complex variety of ethical and moral dilemmas. Their course of action can implicate a wide array of professional and personal outcomes. This course will review key documents that supply the foundation for ethical practice by professionals in the physical therapy landscape including the APTA Code of Ethics and Guide for Professional Conduct. Participants will learn about the function of Physical Therapy Committees/Boards governed at a state level, as well as explore the scope of legal and ethical decision making in the physical therapy practice setting. Challenges to ethical practice will be discussed including common business practices of concern, professional conduct and patients' rights.

Instructor:

Jason Sims, MSPT, COS-C, SFS, CDP, is a licensed physical therapist with a diverse home care background specializing in OASIS accuracy and multi-disciplinary rehab management. Mr. Sims has 15 years' experience in multiple settings including home health, skilled nursing facility and outpatient orthopedics. In addition to his physical therapy degree, Mr. Sims has obtained the Certified OASIS Specialist - Clinical designation (COS-C), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, is a credentialed Senior Fitness Specialist (SFS), and a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP). Mr. Sims has developed and implemented several OASIS for homecare workshops and trained hundreds of therapists in home care as an Area Rehab Director for one of the largest home care organizations in the country. Mr. Sims earned his Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Physiology, and Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

SATISFACTORY COMPLETION: Participants must view the entire course, complete an evaluation, and pass a post-test with a score of 75% (80% for ethics/jurisprudence) or higher to receive a certificate of completion. Participants not fulfilling these requirements will not receive a certificate. Failure to meet these requirements will result in forfeiture of credit for the entire course. No exceptions will be made. Partial credit is not available.
