Brief course description: It is estimated that 223.4 million people in the United States have experienced at least one traumatic event in their lives. Effecting 70% of adults, the National Council for Mental Wellbeing has emphasized that symptoms of trauma are the most common psychological health condition. Research has demonstrated that unresolved trauma can have a significant negative impact on individuals, families, and communities. Unresolved trauma impacts an individual’s ability to heal and maintain gains in rehabilitation settings. This comprehensive, one-day course will support healthcare professionals in the rehabilitation realm toward understanding and effectively identifying trauma within the rehabilitation context as well as provide practical solutions to reduce the likelihood for re-traumatization and promote more comprehensive healing. A mix of lecture and interactive activities will be provided throughout the day. The curriculum will have a heavy focus on integration of the concepts for optimal learning and immediate implementation with patients through practice individually and in small groups. Join us for a day of transformative learning as we anchor into resiliency and strengthen our collective commitment to providing trauma-conscious care in rehabilitation settings.
